Tuesday, September 9, 2008 - Eli Polonsky

I'd like to thank Larry Miller for the opportunity to share the Tuesday "Lost & Found" show with him. It was an honor and privilege to work with one of the true pioneers of "FM underground" album rock radio for the past two years.

Increasing work obligations prevent Larry from continuing with the show on a regular basis, but he will be appearing from time to time. Meanwhile, I'll be doing my best (along with some occasional guest hosts) to continue to keep the Tuesday "FM underground radio" edition of "Lost & Found" alive, and as always, I welcome your input and suggestions.

Fans of Larry may be able to hear him hosting his new online show on the webcast station at the New England Institute of Art, where he teaches. The station is at http://www.neialive.com. Though he doesn't appear to be listed on their online schedule, I believe his show is, or will be, Wednesdays 10 AM to 12 noon. Give it a try next week and see if it's there!

And finally:

“Mad Dog” Miller doing the Disc Jockey Blues, accompanying himself on the 12-string guitar, in a bad mood and singing badly, from 1979...

For the past three years, I’ve had the pleasure of doing the Tuesday version of Lost and Found, in which we try to recreate the alternative-underground-progressive FM rock radio of the late 60’s. I hope I’ve succeeded. After doing the show weekly for a year, I got Eli to come out of retirement and alternate with me. Along the way, we’ve dug up my old Grateful Dead interview from 1967, and revisited the Monterey Pop festival, which I went to that same year. I also rediscovered a lot of great music that I used to play on the radio back then, and had forgotten about.
It’s been fun, but unfortunately, my day job calls, and I find that schedule conflicts make it impossible for me to continue on a regular basis. I will continue to be an active member of WMBR, and help out with our annual fund-raiser, and try to make the occasional guest appearance or fill-in.

Thanks to Eli for sharing his piece of the airwaves with me, and to all for all the good phone calls and support!

September 1, 2008 Playlist w/ Host Bob Dubrow

Labor Day (today) is totally ignored. No work songs, no sir. Foremost on the agenda is the matter of child control...because once again it is the annual Take Your Kids to Play Day (you think this is WORK, bub?). Madelyn (just turned 12), Nathan (age 9), and Eleyna (age 4) are here to do whatever they do when I drag them down to the station. Which usually means live musical performances by Maddy, some valiant attempts at same by Eleyna, and tales of bug and other creepy creature captures by Nate (after some cajoling). And so it was today.
