Tue. 3/20/07 - Eli Polonsky in for Larry Miller

This show was a fill-in for Larry Miller, who could not be in this week.
Larry had planned to rebroadcast his recording of his interview from his pioneering "FM underground" radio show on KMPX in San Francisco with Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir for the release of the first Grateful Dead album on March 17, 1967, to celebrate the 40'th anniversary of that occasion this week. It was my privilege to air this historic interview in his place today.

01. Quicksilver Messenger Service - Who Do You Love medley (Live 1968 from "Happy Trails" CD)
02. Grateful Dead - Alligator - (Live 3/2/69 from "Fillmore West 1969" 3-CD set)
03. Larry Miller's interview with Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir from March 17, 1967. The interview contained brief snippets of songs from the first Grateful Dead album.
04. It's A Beautiful Day - Girl With No Eyes
05. Grace Slick & The Great Society - Somebody To Love
06. Bob Dylan - From A Buick 6

We'll stay with our previously scheduled Tuesday rotation, so I'll be back in my regular slot next Tuesday the 27'th, and Larry will be back on Tuesday, April 3'rd.

Thanks for listening,
Eli Polonsky

March 19, 2007 Playlist w/ Host Bob Dubrow

Hmmm...today I dutifully brought my reading glasses in my CD carry bag, but in traffic my car had to make a sudden stop. CDs and glasses spill onto the floor. During the clean-up I fail to notice the glasses, rendering me once again partially blind when it came to reading CD liner note info during today's show. The partial antidote? PLAY LONG SONGS, LESS TO BLAB ABOUT! Ergo the three "sets" below consisting of but one song, each 16-20 minutes long...

Background music provided by The Keith Tippett Group - Dedicated to You...But You Weren't Listening (1970)

Intro: Boston - "Hitch a Ride" (Boston 1976) R.I.P. Brad Delp

1. The Beat of the Earth - "Untitled (2nd track)" (The Beat of the Earth 1967)

2. The Id - "Boil the Kettle, Mother" (1967 from V/A: Psychedelic Patchwork Volume 1: Boil the Kettle, Mother compilation 2005)
3. The Dan-Dees - "Think About It" (1968 from V/A: Psychedelic States: Illinois in the 60s Vol. 1 compilation 2004)

02. (R) Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Long Time Gone (Live from "Four-Way Street" LP 1970)

06. Country Joe & The Fish - Flying High
07. Commander Cody & The Lost Planet Airmen - Seeds & Stems Again (vocal - Bill Kirchen)

And, Jeff Beck replaced Eric Clapton in The Yardbirds shortly thereafter.
10. The Yardbirds w/Jeff Beck - Happenings Ten Years Time Ago

The "show prep" portion of the "Triple-A Radio" website, used by many radio stations, incorrectly listed this date as the birthday of Danny Kirwan of Fleetwood Mac circa 1968-1972. I found that his birthday is actually May 13th. But, I played one of his great tunes with Fleetwood Mac anyway. I may do a full tribute set closer to his actual birthday.

The Allman Brothers "Live At Fillmore East" was recorded on this date in 1971.
12. The Allman Brothers - Stormy Monday

13. (R) Vanilla Fudge - Ticket To Ride
14. (R) The Nice w/Keith Emerson - Flower, King Of Flies

A song in memory of Brad Delp of Boston, who tragically took his own life last Friday, March 9'th. This is the only Boston song I could find that was exclusively written by Delp, and isn't one of their major commercial radio hits.
15. Boston - Used To Bad News

16. (R) Circus Maximus - The Wind
17. Bob Weir & Ratdog - Brown-Eyed Women (Live last night! 3/12/07, Capital Center For The Arts, Concord, NH)
