May 22, 2012 - Eli Polonsky & Al Kooper!

My guest today was legendary musician, producer and songwriter Al Kooper! It was his second visit to my edition of "Lost & Found" (his first was in 2003), and at least his third visit to WMBR.

Al Kooper began his career as a sideman, producer and songwriter in the late 1950s. In the '60s he played on Bob Dylan's albums "Blonde On Blonde" and "Highway 61 Revisited", was the principal member of the influential group The Blues Project, and formed the group Blood, Sweat, and Tears, performing and writing for its debut album "Child Is Father To The Man". Kooper also produced and performed on the album "Super Session" with Mike Bloomfield and Stephen Stills, and went on to perform on albums by George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Cream, The Who, and many more.

Al will be performing a special tribute concert to his late musical colleague Mike Bloomfield with guitarist Jimmy Vivino at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston on Thursday, May 31.

Rather than spend a lot of the show dwelling on his own past, Al chose to share some of the music that has been catching his ears these days, both old and new, as well as a few of his own fairly recent performances, with the listening audience.
