The station was off the air when I arrived, so at 11:45 I started playing a 28-minute version of "East-West" by The Paul Butterfield Blues Band (live at The Golden Bear, Huntington Beach, CA 1967). This piece continued through the first part of the show until almost 11:15. I used two other 1966 versions (from Hollywood and Chicago) of the same song as background music during the rest of show. The three live performances are available on a 1996 Winner Records release entitled
East-West Live. The Al Kooper/Jimmy Vivino band did not play this classic during the Michael Bloomfield Benefit concert this past Thursday at the Berklee Performance Center.
