March 26, 2012 Playlist w/ Host Bob Dubrow

Today we spent the whole 2 hours of Lost & Found with Roger Miller (Mission of Burma, Alloy Orchestra) playing tracks from the World of Sound (German) re-release of the 1970 recording With Magnetic Fields Disrupted by his old band Sproton Layer from Ann Arbor, Michigan...as well as a whole bunch of the music of the late '60s that influenced founders Roger and his twin brothers Ben and Larry (bass/vocals, lead guitar/vocals, and drums respectively). Harold Kirchen (brother to Bill Kirchen, founder of Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen) rounded out the band on trumpet. I myself spent most of 1975-79 going to college in Ann Arbor during the reign of Destroy All Monsters, a damaged art punk band in which all three brothers played at different times.

It was great fun to spar with Roger yet again. We'd done interviews in years past on the Pipeline! show following different live on-air sets, a couple with Roger solo (1994 and 2000) and one with his Binary System (1998). One of those great performances in the '94 set, Roger's cover of Jim Hendrix's "Are You Experienced," appears on his 1995 album Elemental Guitar. Seek that one out, it's incredible, tape loops recorded live and played back backwards during the same song and all...whew!
