May 31, 2006 - Eli Polonsky sitting in
(R) = By request
(N) = New release/reissue
The first set was in anticipation of (and partially intended to be background music for) a scheduled telephone interview with Carl Palmer, drummer with Emerson, Lake & Palmer (also previously with Atomic Rooster and "The Crazy World of Arthur Brown", and later, Asia).
It turned out that he was unavailable at the scheduled time, so chalk that one down as a missed interview. That's the risk of scheduling these things. Most of them usually come through and actually happen, but there are always a few that don't. He did, however, put on an excellent show with his band at the Regent Theatre in Arlington.
01. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Abaddon's Bolero
02. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - The Barbarian
03. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Aquatarkus (Live)
04. The Crazy World of Arthur Brown - Fanfare/Fire Poem
05. The Crazy World of Arthur Brown - Fire (R)
(Note: Carl Palmer was not the drummer on this album with the original hit version of "Fire". He joined Brown for the tour in late 1968 and 1969).
06. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tank
A couple more from the "British progressive" genre:
07. Nektar - Desolation Valley/Waves
08. Hawkwind - Space Is Deep
09. Jimi Hendrix Experience - Love Or Confusion
10. Jefferson Airplane - Crown Of Creation (N) = (new reissue "The Worst Of Jefferson Airplane" - BMG/Legacy)
11. Eric Burdon & The Animals - Sky Pilot (R)
12. Jeff Beck (w/Rod Stewart) - Morning Dew (R)
13. Love - Robert Montgomery (R)
14. Hot Tuna - Sunrise Dance With The Devil (N) = (new compilation "The Very Best Of Hot Tuna - Keep On Truckin'" - BMG/Legacy)
15. Old & In The Way - Midnight Moonlight (R)
16. Merl Saunders & Jerry Garcia - After Midnight (N) = (new compilation "The Best Of Merl Saunders & Jerry Garcia - Well Matched" - Fantasy Records)
For the birthday of John "Bonzo" Bonham (1948 - 1980):
17. Donovan - Hurdy Gurdy Man (w/Bonham, Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones)
18. Led Zeppelin - Bonzo's Montreaux
19. Led Zeppelin - When The Levee Breaks
20. Them w/Van Morrison - Mystic Eyes
There will be a smorgasbord of various WMBR guest DJ's sitting in on the Wednesday edition of "Lost & Found" during this summer season, and WMBR being all-volunteer radio, I will be back occasionally as my personal time allows. If you'd like to get on my personal mailing list to let you know of my occasional appearances on the radio, feel free to e-mail me at any time.
Happy almost-summer,
Eli Polonsky
