Tuesday, May 22 2007 playlist - Eli Polonsky

I decided the night before to do a two-day early birthday tribute to Bob Dylan, who was born on May 24, 1941. Only four songs peformed by Dylan himself were permitted due to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (and I didn't even get to that many), so I began pulling out the covers. I only pulled about half of the covers that I had thought of, and then only had time to play about half of those that I had pulled. Of course, you could play at least a whole days worth of Bob Dylan covers even just sticking with 1960's/70's artists. More for another time...

(R) = By request

01. Bob Dylan - Gates Of Eden (Live 1964)
02. Grateful Dead - It's All Over Now, Baby Blue (R)
03. Them w/Van Morrison - It's All Over Now, Baby Blue (R)
04. The Turtles - It Ain't Me, Babe (R)
05. The Byrds - Chimes Of Freedom (R)
06. Bob Dylan - Visions Of Johanna (R)
07. The Flamin' Groovies - Absolutely Sweet Marie
08. Richie Havens - Just Like A Woman (R)
09. Fairport Convention - I'll Keep It With Mine
10. The Nice w/Keith Emerson - She Belongs To Me (R)
11. Rick Nelson - She Belongs To Me (R)
12. Peter, Paul & Mary - Too Much Of Nothing
13. Nina Simone - Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues
14. Nina Simone - The Times They Are A'Changing
(I didn't intend to play two by Nina, but the vinyl record ran on while I was in the record library, and it turned out to be quite a version!)
15. Tina Turner - Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You
16. SuperSession (Al Kooper & Stephen Stills) - It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry (R)
17. Stevie Wonder - Blowing In The Wind (1966)
18. The Neville Brothers - With God On Our Side (1989)
19. The Wonder Who (1967 novelty psuedonym for Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons) - Don't Think Twice, It's All Right (R)
20. Jimi Hendrix - Like A Rolling Stone (Live Winterland 10/68) (R)
21. Johnny Winter - Highway 61 Revisited (Live) (R)
22. Bob Dylan, Roger McGuinn, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, George Harrison - My Back Pages (Live from 1992 from Bob Dylan Thirtieth Anniversary Tribute)

That's all I had time for! Next Tuesday, Larry Miller celebrates the anniversary week of the release of The Beatles' "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band", which he debuted playing in it's entirety on the west coast (perhaps in America) 40 years ago on KMPX in San Francisco! However, complying with regulations in the New Millennium, he will be playing a few choice cuts, and a number interesting covers of songs from the landmark album. I'll be back on June 5'th with a return engagement by guest DJ and generous WMBR contributing listener John Krawczyk, who always does a great show!
Thanks for listening,
Eli Polonsky
